About The Book

  Gary Clark
In the summer of 2008 Gary Clark sold his successful business to 'live the dream' of following his beloved Hull City through their first season in the Premier League.

'The Best Trip' is Gary's 'warts and all' account of the year which followed his life-changing decision.

Although he had no idea of what would follow or if his 'soccer sabbatical' was the right thing to do, after supporting the Tigers for over 40 years he knew that it was something he just had to undertake. But would it provide him with the ultimate reward or end in disaster? Even his best friends asked, 'Is he sport-crazy - or just crazy?'

Would City survive in 'the world's toughest league' and could Gary cope with the pressure, as money worries and doubts about his future begin to surface? Gary's ongoing turmoil runs alongside City's problems and is played out against a backdrop of unbelievable contrasts. The Tigers produce some incredible highs with a series of stunning, early wins and enjoy life in the top-six during the first half of the season. But these soon turn to depressing and worrying lows as they then fail to win only one of their last twenty-two league games.

Throughout 'The Best Trip', these traumas are reflected by the heartaches that the club and its supporters suffered during a turbulent history. But as the book's title suggests and Gary is quick to point out, life in the Premier League might not be that bad after all. Savour every second,' he insists, 'for this is truly the best trip we've ever been on.'
